The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University is a new, 65,000 sf. museum, designed by Rafael Viñoly, and features galleries for Duke's permanent collections, galleries for special exhibitions, and sculpture gardens. The North Carolina Central University Art Museum houses collections and temporary exhibitions of 19th- and 20th-century African-American art. Visitors can explore the Wild at the Museum of Life and Science where they can descend a 750-foot boardwalk to a preserved natural setting that is home to black bears, red wolves, and lemurs. Also enjoy the ambient sound of waterfalls and streams or explore life in a wetland. The Magic Wings Butterfly House and Bayer CropScience Insectarium is the largest museum butterfly house east of the Mississippi. The three-story-tall, tropical conservatory features rare and enchanting species of butterflies from Asia, Africa, and Central and South America. The insectarium features more than 25 live exotic and native species of insects and insect predators and an extensive collection of mounted specimens from around the world
